Favourite Advertisement I saw

Whose ad: Kayleigh

Purpose: To buy Cadbury chocolate because it makes you joyful

Target Audience: Teens and above because they will get it

Why it is effective: Because their saying matches the ad perfectly; a glass and a half full of joy. The ad was about two kids ready for a school photoshoot and raising their eyebrows faster and faster. Usually school photoshoots are serious but this one was funny and unusual.

Ask any questions vs. you can lie

This is a tricky question but I would go with asking any questions and getting the truthful answer. I see lying as a very bad thing that will later make you feel guilty. As they say lying only leads up to a bigger lie and trouble. If you lie you will probably get stuck in a  situation but if you ask any question, you know the person is telling the truth and there is nothing to worry about. For exampe, you might ask your friend, "what do you think of this?", your friend would give an honest answer. But if your friend ask that question, and you think it is bad, but ended lying to say it's good, your friend will never know.

The giver- journal entry

At the Ceremony of 12, I finally received my assignment. I was embarassed and confused when the Chief Elder skipped me. I thought, "what had I done wrong" and that I had made a mistake. She later on announced I wasn't assigned it, I was selected the assignment which was something very rare. I was given the assignment Receiver of Memory, but I don't know what that means and I'm not sure how I feel about it.

Clio Awards Advertisement- The Mechanic

                  Target Audience- teenagers and above
Why Clio chose this advertisement- I think Clio chose this award because it's very clever, funny and creative. It took a while to get but once you get it, it makes a whole lot of sense.
 Elements
1. Symbolism- there is a KFC bucket facing towards the audience with their famous slogan- finger lickin' good. The mechanic's hand is big to emphasize the fingers. The mechanic has dirty hands, but when he eats KFC, it's so delicious that he licks his finger. That's how thw KFC bucket and mechanic symbolize each other.
2. Body Language- The mechanic is looking away from the camera with his back because how he looks doesn't matter, it's all on the fingers. He has his hands layed down on the table and close to the camera.
3. Camera angles- The camera shot is not taken from above but kind of down low. It's also taken from the middle of everything. The camera is also up close.
4. Special effects- They made the hand and the bucket bold but the rest of the picture is all blurry. They zoomed out of the scene and put the bucket and hand closer. The hands might have been painted in black but not have been used by oil and grease.
5. Lighting and colour- There is a bit of light at the pillar and where the mechanic is looking at. It might be the sunlight or an overhung t.v. Everything in the ad is dull and colourless, but the bucket is the only that is red so people will drow their attention to it.
6. Beauty and social standing- There's not much beauty and social standing. In advertisements, espacially for clothing, they have a young, nice-looking model to pose for the item. They usually stand and put their hands on their hips and strike a pose.
7. Layout and graphics- The layout is simple and  is like a normal picture. There is a mechanic with his hands on his table eating some chicken from the red KFC bucket. The only graphic in this advertisement is the logo for KFC on the bucket.

Plastiki

The Plastiki is a catamaran built out of 12,500 plastic bottles and other waste products. It took three years to plan the boat and build it. David de Rothschild has already started sailing the boat from the US to Sydney, Australia on 19th March. The reason why the boat is made out of bottles is to draw attention to the amount of waste put into the oceans. David and six other people from the crew will sail across the Great Pacific Garbage Patch, which is a wide area of garbage on the surface of the Pacific Ocean. Some say that the Patch is as large as the state Texas but the they are still not sure of the size. David says that the Plastiki is 100% recycable. He says that if he can sail the boat across the Pacific, then there is without a doubt that people can build boats that won't dispose waste products. He used the Plastiki to help people think waste as a resource. The bottom line is that he did this to raise awareness about waste products in and out of the ocean.

The interview with Tracy Beaker

This is an interview with the messy, laid-back Tracy Beaker who lives in a Children's Home, but then became a famous author.

My first time on the sled

On a wintery day in Switzerland, I, a five year old, decided to go sledding for my first time. We arrived at a ski inn resort wearing mittens, ski jackets and snow goggles. My older sister, Farzana brought along her skis, because she already experienced the excitement before, and has reached the level of skiing. Instead of adult snow equipment, I brought along a red small sled that can only fit me and an adult. My family and I found a snowy hill that wasn’t overwhelming. We decided to use that one for me, for starters. My mom and I climbed up the hill passing people going down on their ski equipment. This was so exciting for me that I rushed my way up with the sled dragging along with me. When I finally reached at the top my mom set the red sled down. My mom sat at the front, while I clutched her back tightly, fearing I might fall. She pushed one foot and we were off! I felt a tingle and adrenaline rush as we went speeding down the hill. My heart was racing so fast like the speed I was going on my sled. I could feel the wind, briskly on my face going the opposite direction. My mom had to use the steering brake to dodge other people. I could see my family waiting at the bottom of the hill getting bigger and bigger until I reached the bottom of the hill.

You might know that kids are filled with enthusiasm and excitement. Since I was only a kid I was jumping up and down begging my mom to go again. We climbed up the same hill again a few times more, but my mom was exhausted. She didn’t want to tolerate me, so she let me go up a small hill, but alone. Here is where the trouble starts. I climbed up the hill with a wide grin on my face, once more and sat on my sled. I pushed off with all my might and went zooming down. At some part of the hill, I stopped at an abrupt halt, and was no longer on the sled anymore. It was so long ago, I can’t remember what went wrong, but what I do remember is I went flying off the sled, tumbling, rolling on and on. I saw the world going round and I felt dizzy. I could see tiny dots, which were my family, vividly. I appreciate that it was ice, or it would have hurt because it’s like doing 15 flips, my head getting squished. When I finally stopped all that chaos and reached the bottom of the hill, I landed at a very weird position, and I’m telling you it’s the worst -the splits. To add more of the embarrassment, my family was laughing at me, with a few other Swiss-goggled strangers. Now this is a very unforgettable first time.

Characterization

From the book: The Grim Grotto
By: Lemony Snicket
Lemony Snicket really brings some characters alive like the evil Count Olaf. There are some new characters like Captain Widdershins and Fiona who have a very distinctive attitude. He presents the characters by their actions or by another character's interaction. And each chapter we get to see more of what the character is like.

On page 2 , Lemony Snicket shows that Violet was an inventor who could get away of hard situations through out her miserable life. "Violet who was 15 years old and nearly the best inventor who had ever found herself trapped in the grey waters of the stricken stream, found her way out by using some tools she had early on." That explains that a girl so young had a brilliant mind, and yet could escape. It matches to the chart underneath hobbies, cause she loved inventing.

On page 3, Lemony brings Count Olaf's greediness to the page. Part of the sentence wrote, "the amount of trouble and woe these skills would bring him once he and his siblings met up with Count Olaf, the notorious villian who had been after the children ever since their parents had perished in a terrible fire." The fire was even done by him, so he could get his filthy hands on the Baudelaire's rich fortune. The author gave a hint with the keyword notorious villian, to show that he never did any good. It also shows how eager and desperate he is to get the money. It matches with number 9 on the chart.

On page 7, he brings out violet's inventing skills again with the quote, "and she looked at her siblings, who were waiting for her inventing skills to save them." Usually Violet was the one who saved them, so her unventions have to be strong to hold them all. They always relied and depend on her, but she didn't mind because she loved her sibling very much. This means she cares about them to love them.

Because of the different characters and the way he introduces them, I keep on reading his fantastic books!

First day of middle school

On a sunny August 10th i started middle school and i was feeling excited but nervous at the same time. I made my way down the ramp near the high school science rooms and looked at the at the student's board to see what class i was in. I eventually found my name and next to it was the name, Micheal Hughes. I looked next to it which said Q2. That was my teacher and that was my classroom module. It wasn't so far away since i had to turn around and walk straight, but wait a second, RING!, that was the morning bell and i was late. I rushed into the candle-scented classroom where everyone was already sitting. My teacher passed me a chair. As always, we introduced ourselves and wrote the day schedules. I had beggining strings and drama today. And the next day I had french 1A and PE.

At break time I finally saw my friends and we shared our holiday stories. I also bought my school supplies at D'Toko and bought my lucnh ticket for a hotdog. I headed for begginingg strings in 1-13. I was going to play violin. Then it was lunchtime and i ate my hotdog with my new and old friends. After that i rushed to math/science in P5 with Ms. Marrello. We disscussed the classroom expectations and other things. I ended the day with drama. I was really nervous about this because i'm a bit shy and in drama you have to do things that are loud. After the last bell rang i went back to my homeroom to go over the last few things

Well middle school is exhausting but fun at the same time.
